Convert Type 1 Midi To Type 0 For Mac Download
AFAIK Logic will save all projects as type1 Midi files but when that option is checked it will save single track projects as type 0. Multi - track projects will still be saved as type 1. Have I just confused the issue further? I will check this out as soon as I get back to Logic this evening (it's lunchtime here). There are two variations of the Standard MIDI File format, called Type 0 and Type 1. Type 0 is a single track of data; Type 1 is multi-track. The comfortable Windows software allows to batch convert several files at once. The software lists current MIDI file type of each file. GNMIDFMT checks validity of MIDI files. Simple click on button 1 2 or 3 converts single file or selected files. Documentation explains differences of MIDI formats. Some hardware or software only supports format 0. If you load a type 0 into most sequencers, it will split the MIDI channels for you. Then all you have to do is save as a type 1. I have no use for type 0 anymore, although I used to use it when I fed floppy disks into a hardware sequence player. (I'm glad technology eliminated the need for that). Insights and incites by Notes.
Type 1 files into Type 0 files that I can use with my Yamaha DGX500 portable
electric grand piano. But here's the catch: the utility *MUST* maintain a
clean separation of the left and right hand parts in the converted file.
The DGX line of keyboards has a feature that lets you practice either the
left hand or the right hand in a variety of modes (real time, waiting,
muted, etc.). Unfortunately, the built-in floppy disk only recognizes Type
0 MIDI files.
There are about a zillion programs out there that convert from Type 1 to
Type 0, and I've tried them all. But they all suffer from the same
fundamental flaw: namely, they blindly map all treble clef staves (for both
the left and right hand) into a single treble clef stave. This process is
repeated for the base clef as well. The result is a jumbling of the left
and
right hands that makes the converted file unusable as a learning aid on the
DGX series of keyboards.
What I need is a utility that converts Type 1 MIDI piano solo pieces as
follows:
1. For the right hand part, merge the treble and bass clef staves into a
single treble clef stave, doing notation conversion as required.
2. For the left hand part, merge the treble and bass clef staves into a
single bass clef stave, doing notation conversion as required.
(Ideally, the user could specify treble or bass clef as the target for
either hand.)
3. Export the modified right and left hand parts as a Type 0 MIDI file.
Yamaha really should have provided this utility with the DGX keyboards, but
they didn't...so this is a money-making shareware opportunity for a smart
MIDI
developer out there. I'd easily pay $35.00 or more for a utility like this.
